Lighting highlights the sculptural forms of People’s Hall, which will serve as the central meeting place for the fifty-seven African nations. Both interior and exterior lighting are tightly integrated within the dynamic architecture, which houses multiple conference halls for 5000, 1500, and 500 people under a single, sweeping roof.
The ground-level façade glows with louver-integrated lighting, creating a soft, floating effect from a distance. Select skylights integrate energy-efficient fluorescent sources, forming a swirling pattern that gives texture and movement to the roof at night.
This spirit of dynamism also infuses lighting around the building. Luminous pavers, equipped with extreme long-life miniature LED sources, emerge from the Hall in a pattern that accelerates around entrances to provide intuitive wayfinding. The translucent pavers are sturdy enough to support the weight of a vehicle, while luminaries used along the waterfront seawall are rated for marine-grade use.
