In December 1999, Zaha Hadid Architects and OVI joined forces, winning the international competition for a new ski
jump on the Bergisel Mountain in Innsbruck.
In the evening, lighting is one of the most significant features to generate a landmark seen from a distance at night. The
ski jump opened in 2002 and is situated on the mountain overlooking the city of Innsbruck. It continues to serve as both
a state-of-art Olympic event venue, as well as, a major landmark for the city of Innsbruck.
The structure is ...”an organic hybrid, a mixture of bridge and tower. ...the 150-seat restaurant facility, with its panoramic
glazing, now provides a 360-degree view of the spectacular mountain scenery. By night the structure lights up. The ramp
and the cafe interior change color and glow intensly from the darkness.” -- Lillie Hollein, Domus 854, December 2002
The project has received in 2002 the Tyrolian Architecture Award and the Red Dot Award.
